morphological resemblance has caused much confusion and isolates are often misidentified or not differentiated by taxonomists using morphological and physiological techniques (Pitt et al. 1990). Sixty-nine strains originating from cork and belonging to the Glabra series were grouped according to their partial β-tubulin gene sequences. A subset of these strains was selected for macro- and microscopic analysis, extrolite profiling and sequencing a part of the β-tubulin and calmodulin gene.
